Cicadas are beginning to make their appearance in Middle Tennessee. Our area won't see an apocalypse (despite what we may read in the news).
Cicadas will have a short lifespan and (although annoying), generally speaking, won't bother plants too much.
We recommend temporarily covering young trees with netting, as cicadas may slightly damage a young tree's leaves and branches.
Adult cicadas may cause minor damage by ovipositing; cutting small slits into young branches on trees, tree bark, or plant stems to deposit their eggs. This damage won't hurt the tree long-term, but it can take a while for it to completely heal.
We sell netting at the nursery and are happy to assist you with any questions you have.
